Introduction to Water Resources Engineering

Learning Objectives: 1. Introduce students to water resources engineering. 2. Teach the concepts of capacity and demand related to stormwater management. 3. Discuss probablility of storm/rainfall occurrence. 4. Emphasize the importance of water resources engineering by studying and discussing the Johnstown flood of 1889 and associated dam failure. 5. Learn how an earthen dam works. 6. Explore ethical and engineering decisions and consequences of the South Fork dam failure at Johnstown.
